As Jesus feasts with the Pharisees, we see clear reasons why they will NOT be a part of the heavenly feast when the Kingdom of God comes in full in the future. Their attitudes and behaviours, as supposed people of God and leaders of God’s people, show them to be people concerned only with self-righteousness, self-promotion and worldly gain, and so prove themselves to be enemies of God (and His Son) and have no place in the Kingdom. The challenge for unbelievers and believers alike is whether we will respond to God’s invitation into his Kingdom and enjoy the Kingdom feast, by seeing our need for Jesus and living not for our self or for this world, but instead to live for God and His Kingdom.
