After weeks of judgement messages upon Israel for her well-deserved sins, God gave them the final word last week. Babylon had now surrounded Jerusalem; their judgement had arrived.

With these words, God’s focus moves. From judging his people… to defending them! Israel may be rebellious and sinful – but they are HIS people, and he will defend them against those who have persecuted and stumbled them. The sword of God’s justice will now fall upon Israel’s neighbours, and all with one express goal: that everyone will know that Yahweh is Lord.
