That We Might Know The Lord In Judgement and Hope – The Fall of Jerusalem

Chapter 33 brings to the end the first half of Ezekiel which has the singular point of revealing God’s judgement, which will fall upon both Israel and all the nations. At the centre of this final chapter is the news that Jerusalem has finally and really fallen. The city of God is destroyed. Years and years of prophetic pronouncements have now come to pass.

In this climaxing chapter, we are to be gripped by the great tragedy of it all. The tragedy of Israel’s sinfully senseless denial of responsibility and reality, and the great tragedy of no longer being God’s people and having God’s place.

Sin and its consequences are tragic. Why would we choose to die? Why choose to reject God and His mercy? Not my people… no more in my presence… what could be more tragic than this?
