Laodicea, rich and successful, became self-sufficient and Jesus-deficient. The church thought greatly of themselves, yet Jesus has the opposite assessment. The church needed to renew their zeal for Jesus and for what Jesus gives or face the ignominy of being spat out by Jesus. Jesus scolds and disciplines this church out of his great love for them and zeal for their restoration.
