The church at Thyatira, an insignificant trade city, faced great socioeconomic pressures to conform to false worship and works. The church were strong in doing the works of Jesus, but they made the grave error of tolerating a false prophet who was teaching compromised worship and works.

To conquer means standing firm in loyal worship and works of Jesus, which means that the church could not and must not tolerate such false and harmful influences.
