The prediction of the temple’s destruction triggers questions about the end of all things, the final judgement of God. Disciples of Jesus must know what are NOT signs and how to respond to them, and they are to see that the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple IS a sign of the end, triggering an extended period of time before the end finally comes. We are called not to obsess or be oblivious to these things, but instead to be assured, informed, prepared and courageous in our faith and witness.
