Jesus’ Verdict on the World – The World’s Sentence

In last week’s passage (Luke 21:5-24), Jesus began a conversation with His disciples about the end of the world, the day of judgement, the coming of God’s Kingdom in full. The end began with the fall of Jerusalem and the temple, it continues on through the ‘times of the Gentiles’ and will come to an end, preceded by comprehensive and clear signs that signal the arrival of the Son of Man, who is given ALL authority over ALL people, who will rule and judge and redeem. Believers are called to look forward to that day of redemption, doing all that they can in the present to hold onto Jesus and stand with Him on that last day. Implicitly, unbelievers are called to consider the evidence of what has already been fulfilled, and so see that Jesus’ return is certain, in order that they too might put their trust in Jesus as King and Redeemer.
