Jesus, having navigated the traps set against him, now goes on the attack. Jesus calls out and condemns the corrupt religion and leadership of Israel. He warns the crowds and all future people of God to be wary of such false teachers and their false religion. Thankfully and comfortingly, the passage ends with a beautiful picture of a poor widow who goes all-in for God. Thankfully, we are reminded that our Lord Jesus, who is the fullness of God, fulfils for us ‘true religion’ and is our one true and good leader.
