In Jesus’ life, He performed great works, but promised His disciples that they will do “greater works”. The key to these “greater works” was the return of Jesus to the Father and the sending of the Spirit down. The Spirit of Christ empowered the Apostles to continue the work of Christ in ever-increasing and expanding ways. The performed authenticating signs, preached Christ, and called people to repentance and faith for the forgiveness of sins. They faced opposition and stood boldly against it. Believers today, filled and empowered with the same Spirit, are to continue the work of Christ in proclaiming His gospel for the forgiveness of sins.
