About Us
We are St. Lucia Evangelical Church, SLE Church in short. We are located in St Lucia, Brisbane, and are a church family committed to following Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. We do this by getting to know him through His living Word, the Bible, which is why the sermon is the key part of our Sunday services.
The 'E' in SLE also stands for English as we are an English speaking Church. Historically we have made this clear as there is also a Chinese speaking church we are partners with. SLE is predominantly made up of two groups of people: the first group consists of migrant families from South East Asia and the second group consists of interstate and international students studying in one of the Brisbane universities.
Although these two groups make up the bulk of the congregation, all people from Australia and from all nations are welcome to visit and be a part of our church gathering and family. Indeed, being a family in Christ is what we are really on about. We are a church that has a strong focus on the Word of God, especially understood in light of Jesus Christ and his gospel. We seek not just to have a strong understanding of God’s Word, but also to experience a strong transformation of our lives through God’s Word. This is seen in obedience to God and love for God and each other in our church, homes and wherever our lives are lived. And it is seen in our prayerfulness. We are by no means perfect, or even close to it, but this is what we are striving towards and praying for.
Our mission
SLE Church exists to glorify God
by proclaiming Jesus to everyone
and by living all of our lives for him
through the power of the Holy Spirit.
In May 2018, the members of the church finalised our MISSION statement, core VALUES, and VISION statement for our church. They are reproduced in this booklet as a reference point for all members, regulars, and visitors.
