In the days when there was no King, God set out to show his people what they needed: Him! Instead they opted for a king like everyone else - so they got what they wanted but would they want what they got? The book of 1 Samuel opens up for us a world of the early days of kingship in Israel and shows us the sort of King the people of God really need.
EPISODE 1
No King in Israel
In keeping his promises God raises up faithful leaders and brings down unfaithful leaders so that His people might be warned against faithlessness and encouraged to trust and hope in Him.
EPISODE 2
No Need for a King
God warns that his holiness means he will not be treated lightly by his people or others.
EPISODE 3
Desiring a King
God’s people reject God in their desire for a human king, but God grants their request and paves the way for Jesus, the true king.
EPISODE 4
The First King
The first king of Israel is outwardly impressive, inwardly apprehensive, and empowered by the Spirit to do well. So long as he remains in the Spirit, walking closely to God, there is hope of security and unity in Israel.

Samuel's Warning
Despite all their evil in desiring their own king, God will not forsake his own people but will graciously save them through their king.

Rejection of the King
With sadness we watch as Saul’s disobedience results in failures of leadership and judgement upon him.

God’s ways are unlike ours – man sees with our eyes, but God sees with the heart.

We can be sure that God saves us from sin because he raised Jesus from the dead.

Isolation of the King
We rejoin the narrative of 1 Samuel after David defeats Goliath. How will people react? Especially, will King Saul react with thanksgiving or jealousy?

The King's Escape
God’s chosen king must innocently suffer to prove he is the true king.
EPISODE 11
King David's True Colours
Though innocent so far, David shows that he is a human like all of us: capable of acting in righteous, mysterious, and evil ways.

King Saul's True Colours
Saul’s downfall is a sad and expected result of God’s judgment on him.
