New Sermon Series: Revelation

Revelation Sermon Series 2013 (v2.0)

I grew up in a non-Christian family and my first introduction to the book of Revelation came in the early 90’s with some TV documentary on the supposed prophecies contained within. Looking back on the documentary (I forget the title) I can summarise it in one word: terrible! I vaguely recollect something about Revelation predicting that China would produce an army of +100,000 to dominate the world, that Saddam Hussein was attempting to rebuild the Tower of Babel, that the Ark of the Covenant was close to discovery and that the nation that discovered it would become the most powerful in the world. Even as a non-Christian I thought this was weird!

So, I’d like to invite you to share what have been some of the strange, fanciful, or out there intepretations of Revelation you’ve heard in your time. No names, we’re here to have a bit of a laugh at ourselves 🙂

Also I’d like to introduce the theme song for the sermon series: Glorious Christ.

Here are the wonderful lyrics:

VERSE 1
The radiance of the Father
Before the dawn of time
You spoke and all creation came to be
The molecules and planets
Reveal Your great design
And every one was made so we could see
So we could see

CHORUS
You are the glorious Christ
The greatest of all delights
Your power is unequalled
Your love beyond all heights
No greater sacrifice
Than when You laid down Your life
We join the song of angels
Who praise You day and night
Glorious Christ

VERSE 2
You left the air of heaven
To breathe the dust of earth
And dwell among the outcast and the poor
You came to be forsaken
And died to take our curse
So You could be our joy forever-more
Forevermore

BRIDGE
You’re seated now in heaven
Enthroned at God’s right hand
You’ve shattered death and freed us
From our fears
And though we cannot see You
You’re coming back again
And all will be made right when You appear
And all will be made right when You appear

It’s a wonderful theme song for the book of Revelation because at the heart of it the book is primarily about the supremacy of Jesus Christ in all things. He is the glorious one in which there are all delights, power unequalled and love beyond all heights. We hope that this song encourages all of us as we hear God’s word over the coming weeks from the book of Revelation.
